New Jersey’s Governor signed a new legislative bill (S4081) on December 21, 2021 establishing extended and new restrictions on water and sewer utilities.

In short, the new law extended the grace period which prohibits local authorities or municipal authorities from placing, selling or enforcing a lien on real property for the unpaid balance of any water or sewer charge until March 15, 2022. The law states that prior to discontinuing any service to a residential customer or placing, selling or enforcing a lien on residential real property for the unpaid balance of any water or sewer charge accrued between the declaration of the public emergency, which for our purposes was March 9, 2020 and the expiration of the extended grace period which is now March 15, 2022, we must offer to every residential customer a bill payment plan for the unpaid balance of any water or sewer charges accrued between March 9, 2020 and March 15, 2022.  The bill payment plan must have at a minimum a twelve (12) month duration unless the customer requests a shorter payback period and we are not allowed to require payment of a down payment, a deposit, a reconnection fee, interest or penalties.  We also have the ability to offer our residential customers a combined payment and forgiveness plan for a period of less than twelve (12) months that involves forgiveness of at least fifty percent (50%) of the outstanding principal upon the consent of the residential customer.  If a residential customer does not agree to a utility service payment plan that we are required to offer within thirty (30) days of being offered the same, the customer shall have deemed to have waived the right to enter into the bill payment plan, and we are then free thereafter to take the appropriate enforcement actions after March 15, 2022. For questions or to request a payment plan, please contact the Authority’s Business Office via email info@mhmua.com or phone 609-267-0015

Position:   Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (Entry Level)

Duties: A plant operator is responsible for completing daily operational duties to include: equipment checks, housekeeping, landscaping, equipment operation, vehicle operation, preventive maintenance and other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements: The position requires the employee to be dependable, self-motivated and reliable.  A valid New Jersey driver’s license is required.

The employee must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions and perform as part of the operations team. The employee will be required to work overtime and to provide adequate coverage during emergencies.

The employee will be required to work shift work which may include any or all of the flowing shifts; 11PM – 7AM, 7AM – 3PM, or 3PM – 11PM. In addition, days off are subject to scheduling and could be a combination of any two days during the week from Sunday – Monday. Weekend days off are not guaranteed.

 

Training: While prior experience will be taken into consideration, it is not required. All Training for the position of Plant Operator will be a combination of on-the-job training, classroom instruction, individual instruction and the review of manuals, guidelines, verbal and written instructions.

 

Pay and Benefits: In accordance with current CBA between the Construction and General laborers’ Union, Local 172 of South Jersey and the Mount Holly Municipal Utilities Authority.

the dump station at the MHMUA will no longer be available for most RV’s after December 31, 2020. Only MHMUA Customers with current sewer accounts will be allowed to dump beginning January 1, 2021.

  To utilize the dump station at the MHMUA after December 31, 2020, the RV operator will need to provide a current MHMUA sewer bill and present a driver’s license with a matching account address.  There will be  no charge for MHMUA Customers.
